Tesla just posted its best second-quarter deliveries ever — beating Wall Street’s ~409,000 estimate by about 20% — while US EV sales fell 20% after the $7,500 federal tax credit vanished. The tell isn’t the cars; it’s 1.48 million active FSD subscribers (up 56% year-over-year) and more than 55% of new North American Teslas leaving with FSD at delivery. Motor Trend flipped from calling the system exhausting in 2025 to naming FSD v14 the best driver-assistance product for 2026. I walk through why that turns a Model 3/Y into a transportation unit competitors can’t copy with a supplier part, and why Cybercab plus unsupervised software is the actual industrial bet.

Five misunderstood ideas about the Musk stack, and the first is that robotaxi is the red herring: the cash machine is FSD on cars people already own. Tesla killed the one-time FSD purchase and locked it at $99/month — the floor, not the ceiling, once unsupervised driving hands you your commute back. I connect that to Optimus taking over the Fremont S/X line, a Gen 3 hand with 22 degrees of freedom, humanoid labor heading toward $3–5/hour versus $22–28 warehouse wages, and the rest of the stack: drones, Colossus, AI5, orbital compute, and why Earth is just the beta for the Moon and Mars.
